Oh Dani ..I am so so happy your son will be home for the holidays !!! WTG!!
We stay home for Christmas ...because of my knee replacement we will just have a quiet holiday . My kids are all older and of course still at home so it's alot different than it used to be . My dad comes to visit Christmas eve and that's his birthday . We have a platter and meatballs and cheeses and a cake . I put out candies and cookies ..now it's morte about getting together . Times are alot tighter this year but money doesn't matter on Christmas eve ..everything feels speacil no matter what ..does everyone feel that way?

Yes, Sorcer it is a traditional Italian Christmas Eve meal. When I was a kid my mother and her 2 sisters used to make a lot more of the fish that we have today. I still make the squid cooked in a light tomato sauce, fried smelts, and cod fish, which we call bacalla in Italian. I fry some of it in a light batter and then make some like a stew. My mother and my aunts used to make ell and occtopus, which was a favorite of the men in the family. May not sound good, but believe me all of these fish dishes are delicious, but then again I grew up with that food but others may not find it appealing. Our parents are no longer with us, but we have kept the tradition going and hopefully my chilldren will do the same.

Oh absolutely! Around my old neighborhood, you had to wait for hours to get your xmas eve fish because the lines would be out the door the whole week before xmas! Its more the catholic religion thing I think, no meat on Christmas eve and all that. Just like during lent, no meat on Fridays. Yeah the more i think about it the more i believe its a catholic religion tradition. Are you catholic nikkidog?

Carey, thanks for posting that picture. There is nothing like New York to get you in the mood for Christmas. I miss it so much. Here in Tucson it never quite feels like Christmas with the weather.

New Years Eve in Times Square is something I still have not experienced and its only 20 minutes from me! BUT the crowds and all the drinking and stuff, just never wanted to attempt it. But I hear its amazing!

Dani, you have gotten the best X-mas gift ever and that is your son being home and safe with you all!:)HG

Thanks for posting the pic Carey, it does look beautiful. Wow everyone's Christmas sounds so good, but the main thing that comes out is spending time with our loved ones, that we all have in common!

Yes Carey I am Catholic and you are right I think it is more of a religious tradition. That is how we make the squid, stuffed and in tomato sauce and then we serve it over thin spageitti. Carey where do you live in NY. I live in upstate NY.

You said it , Good ole Brooklyn. I spent many summers there when I was a kid. My realtives lived on Eastern Parkway ( it has been so long ,but I am pretty sure that is the name of the street ) and my aunt had a beauty shop there. That is how I became interested in becoming a beautician. My sister met her husband there , but now they live in New Jersey. I met someone there also, but went home to my high school sweetheart, to whom I have been married to for 41 years. Will never forget the good times in good ole Brooklyn. I had a blast.

I haven't been at the forum for about a month! I moved to a 9 room apartment that I've been remodelng like crazy. Broke as hell so I haven't been playing the casinos except for a few freebies. I want to rest up during the holidays but that won't happen.Everyone wants to come to my place for Christmas and New Years!

Btw,I live in the southern tier of New York and it has been freezing for the last couple of days.Hope everyone is keeping warm.
