In memory of a great musician who passed on recently...

Mister Bo Diddley

Dearest Darling lyrics

(Ellas McDaniel) 1958

Dearest darling,
Dearest darling,
Dearest darling.

Don't you know,
The Lord above,
Created you,
Just for me to love,
Picked you out,
From all the rest,
Because He knew I loved you best.

Dearest darling,
Dearest darling,
Dearest darling, take my hand, take my hand

I once had a heart,
So trill and true,
But now it's gone,
From me to you,
Take care of it,
Like I have done,
For you have two hearts,
And I have none.

Dearest darling,
Dearest darling,
Dearest darling.

If I get to heaven,
Before you do,
I'll try to make a hole,
And pull you thru.

Dearest...dearest...dearest.

If I go to heaven,
And you not there,
I'm gonna write your name,
On the heavenly stair,
If you aren't there,
By turn of day,
Then I know baby,
You know the way.

Dearest...dearest...dearest,
O sweet baby, o sweet baby

TURN AND RUN BY NEIL FINN

This is such a pretty song, it's really worth listining, but IMO Neil Finn is one of the greatest songwriter/singers of our time. Cheers! XoX Liz

There’s a light overhead
overhead
In the sky overhead
overhead
And I’m with you now in body and music and mind
And we’re silent and still
Everything’s so out of control tonight.

In a plane that’s flying fast
At a speed that makes me cry
Have you left me now
To trouble that won’t let me lie
I’m awake all the time
You know where I stand
Holding my plastic gun,

So turn and run----

You cold killers of innocence
Against us there’s no defence
Your flash and your wickedness
You can’t break our love.

Tie my hands behind my back
Put a gag on top of my mouth
But I won’t give you up
Till silverware’s covered in dust
And my shoes fall apart,
The tumbleweed runs
Over my desert heart.

So turn and run---

You cold killers of innocence
Against us there’s no defence
Your flash and your wickedness
Will surely bring you down again
Somehow we must stay afloat
Won’t give in to the undertow
Something’s you will never know
You can’t break our love

You can pull us down
But you can’t break our love

  AND NEIL ROCKS!!!

I know, he's great!! Back in the late 70's with Split Enz, to Crowded House, with his Brother Tim and his solo stuff!! Someone told me to go see the young Finn- Liam. That LIVE he kicks butt. Talk about talent in the family. Neils son Liam. If you don't have the DVD 7 worlds collide, I highly recomend!

I've had the good fortune of seeing Crowded House about 14 yrs. ago. Cheryl Crow opened- it was my daughters first show (she was 7) had more fun hanging and blowing the minds of the Amnesty International peeps in the lobby. And I've seen Neil in L.A. 4 times. I've met him twice, have some signed swag!

Thanks for the link and it's always good to see you Retro. Hope you and your family are doing well!! :proud

Oh and if you ever want to hear our supper smart "punk" band -X- you can get a used DVD on Amazon- I'm in a few shots. It's X live in Los Angeles. Smart music with a mix of punk, rockabilly, alt. county and maybe some folk all mixed in.. Probably why they still play and ROCK HARD after 31 years together!! And another great DVD is The Old 97's Live. I'm going to see them this month. -X- are held in high esteem? by there peers, but they slipped through the cracks. You would like John Doe's solo stuff as well!!!

Take care!!

AIN'T NO BREAD IN THE BREAD BOX

It was late into December
On a cold winter day
I'd just finished bringing wood into the kitchen
When I heard my Amanda say
She said "Elijah, you better look around
Things ain't like they used to be
Times getting hard for you and me
Come on daddy, it's time to shake things down"

There ain't no bread in the bread box
'Cause we ain't got no dough
And it's seems like we ain't got enough time
To go foolin' around no more
I've been working so hard for oh so long
What've you got to show?
Open up your eyes little darling
Let's pack up your things and go
Open up your eyes little darling
Don't want to live here no more
Open up your eyes little darling
Been here for far too long
Open up your eyes little darling
It's time to move along

SALOME

Salome, untie my hands
Well I'll find another lady
And you'll wreck another man

It's over now
And so are we-
My hearts turned to dust girl you broke every part of me

And I'm tired of making friends,
And I'm tired of making time-
And I'm sick to death of Love
And I'm sick to death of trying-

And it's eaiser for you
Ya it's eaiser for you.

THATS A REALLY GOOD SONG BY THOSE BOYS FROM TEXAS-- THE OLD 97's!!!

Love, laugh and live to the fullest

You are the hole in my head
I am the pain in your neck
You are the lump in my throat
I am the aching in your heart
We are tangled
We are stolen
We are living where things are hidden

You are something in my eye
And I am the shiver down your spine
You are on the lick of my lips
And I am on the tip of your tongue

We are tangled, We are stolen
We are buried up to our necks in sand

We are luck
We are fate
We are the feeling you get in the golden state
We are love
We are hate
We are the feeling I get when you walk away….
Walk away

Well you are, the dream in my nightmare
I am that falling sensation
You are my needles and pins
I am your hangover morning
We are tangled
We are stolen
We are living where things are hidden

We are luck
We are fate
We are the feeling you get in the golden state
We are love
We are hate
We are the feeling I get when you walk away
Walk away
Walk away

You are the hole in my head
You are the pain in your neck
You are the lump in my throat
I am the aching in your heart

GOLDEN STATE by JOHN DOE

It's really a duet, I've heard him sing it with Jill Sobule, Aimee Mann, Cindy Wasserman and Kathleen Edwards. They all do a fantastic job, it's really an acoustic song, sometimes just John on guitar.. I'm partial to Cindy Wasserman, nicest chick ever- and her older brother used to play with Garcia and Lou Reed!!

All good things,
Liz

THE WEIGHT Written by Robbie Robertson of THE BAND

I pulled in to Nazareth
I was feelin' bout' half past dead
I just need a place where I can lay my head
Hey mister can you tell me, where a man might find a bed?
He just grinned and shook my hand
And no was all he said

Take a load off Annie
Take a load for free
Take a load of Annie
And, and you put the load right on me

One interpratation-- The Weight" of the title appears to concern the mounting burdens and demands of society which no one individual can reasonably shoulder.... How true is that??

And I read somewhere the Nazareth he writes of is actually a city in Pennsylvania, home of the Martin guitar factory.

Whatever... But this is probably in my top 100 song favs.

Cheers

She.... had to leave
LOS ANGELES

She bought a clock on Hollywood Blvd.
The day she left.
It felt sad
It felt sad

She had to get out! get out
Get Out Get Out.

She gets confused
Flying over the state-line
Her hands turn red,
Cause the days change at night
Change in an Instant
Those days change at night
Change in an Instant.......

Thats part of the song LOS ANGELES by the band X
Love and light to all,
Liz

Standing on the moon
Where talk is cheap and vision true-
Standing on the moon but I would rather be with you.

Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July,
Just looking up to heaven at this cresent in the sky.

Standing on the moon
With nothing left to do
A lovely view of heaven, but I'd rather be with you.

Be with you
Be with you
Be with you
Oh I'd rather be with you,
Be with you.......... (fade out)

Standing on the moon- Hunter/Garcia- Grateful Dead
