The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has published some responsible gaming tips for players in the state who are betting online.
The regulator outlined ways to identify iCasinos and sweepstakes platforms that do not offer legal and safe play to Arizona residents.
The ADG said in a statement, “With advertisements for online casinos and gaming platforms proliferating on
social media, scammers are targeting unsuspecting individuals to steal personal information and financial assets.
“Illegal online casinos and sweepstakes platforms present themselves as legitimate platforms, aiming to exploit players
by offering illegitimate or illegal gaming services. However, many of these operations are not legal or regulated,
leaving users vulnerable to fraud, identity theft, and other serious risks.”
The department of gaming also explained to players that recovering funds lost on sites like these is unlikely.
“Due to their unregulated nature, ADG is unable to resolve complaints and disputes arising from unregulated and
illegal gaming sites, leaving victims with little to no chance of recovering lost funds,” the ADG said. “In light of these
developments, the Arizona Department of Gaming urges residents to verify the legitimacy of any online gaming platform before engaging in play.”
Good to know: The state of Arizona allows certain games that are styled as “free-to-play”
However, free-to-play platforms that promote illegal gambling are not permitted in Arizona.
The ADG advised players to check out sites before betting, verify sources before sharing personal information,
be skeptical of social media ads that promise “guaranteed wins” and search for sites that include responsible
gaming messaging and self-exclusion options.
Arizona has welcomed legal Sports Betting outside of Tribal gaming for nearly three years. The state first
legalized sports wagers in April 2021 after Governor Doug Ducey signed the bill into law.
Arizona debuted its sports wagering market in September 2021.
