Congratulations! You won a million dollars but you have to give it all away. How will you distribute the money?

What an interesting question!!! Family, first. And then some to the less fortunate - homeless, etc.

ROFLMAO! I don't trust my kids enough. I would never get it back! :laugh

My feelings exactly....lol....I would give some to my kids and some to my ex hubby, some to my friends who have stood by me in hard times, some to the church and not sure who I would give the rest to.

definitely i would give some to my awesome church( Valley Church)

and then i would have to give some to a couple of my favorite charities,

The make a wish foundation and St. Jude's.

Then, save a little for retirement, and give some to my family.

But remember, $1 million isn't what it used to be lol so it doesn't go as far as you think anymore when you start handing it out.

Well if I have to give it away.
I'm gonna give some to my family, some to charity, some to the church and some to the Harley shop when they give me my new Harley

What a great question! It's funny you ask, my kids and I had this exact same conversation one day while traveling. I have to say I was extremely proud of thier answers because they are both under 18 and neither of them was very selfish (yes, they did want the lamborghini!) but when we played, there was no stipulation that we couldn't keep it.

If I had to give a million dollars away, my answer would be the same as I told my kids. (but first, of course. I would take care of them.. so they wouldn't have to ever "want" or "need" again.)
Then.. I would pick a couple of town welfare offices, and sit there watching. & I would wait for that one mom, who was so desperately in need of help from them yet had them turn her and her kids away. And then I would give her 10 grand of the money!! (then I would go to the next town and do it again!) ;)

The reason for this,,, my kids and I were in need of help. But our town welfare officer had passed judgement on me and my disability. Even with documentation from my doctors. For a whole year all she would do was "pend" helping us. If she had given us an approval or denial we could get help by other agencies BUT by "pending" it, we could not get help anywhere!! She told us "if we were homeless, we would get bumped to the top of the housing list because of my disability"... we ended up homeless and housing said "I don't know who told you that, but it's a blatant lie"...this woman was ruthless. Her office was a disgrace. Paperwork everywhere and completely disorganized. One day my son pointed out that the only two plants in her office, were dead!! Dried up, never watered.
She literally ruined our lives and our hopes of any help out there. In the end we were living in and out of hotels!! :sadly I was down to 90 lbs by the time we moved back with my parents a year ago.
That woman really abused her "power" to help those in need. She chose just her pals to help and those of us who really needed it, lived a nightmare of repeat visits to her office daily and weekly. I was a bit relieved to hear that I was not the only one she treated this way, but also saddened to hear that others were treated so awful by this one person who had been given the power to help but chose to abuse that power.

Sorry for such a long answer!! I felt it needed an explanation!

I am so sorry that you had so much grief caused by that person precious_woman, she certainly is not the sort of official you want to have to deal with.

Oh thank you Beaches lol I'll be glad to be in the family handout line ;)

Precious, sadly small towns can be the harshest - glad you've come a long way since then.

As for me I'd love to start a foundation for seed money for ordinary folks who have a "dream" but just need a few thousand or even a few hundred to get started. Like the guy who wants to mow lawns for extra income but who's mower is too old to take the extra work.

And of course I'd put chips in all my Streak friends accounts! woohoo

I will be standing in that "family" line too labell, hehe. precious_woman, I was so saddened by your story. I am so glad that through all the horrible things you endured, that you stayed strong and can have empathy for others now. Some people would have gone the other way hon. :hug

The problem with that CareyG is that someone like that "is given that power" . I did contact people of authority who were "above her" but you need to remember, who will they believe??? Me, saying that month after month (for a year) I have been filling out the same forms, giving the same reciepts, proving that I DO pay my bills to have her "pend" us again and ask for that information all over again. Or her, saying that I did not submit a certain document!! because when it all comes down to the end of the day, Once you go above someone's head like that zippedlipsthen you have to watch your back. I guess I was doomed from the start with how disorganized she was!!!
Thank you very much everyone for your statements. I certainly have become a stronger person because of it. :penguindance

Phil and I would look for families that were down on their luck and set them up in a home with utilities for 6 months to get on their feet. That would give them time to find a job and start saving. Seems once you fall behind it is so hard to catch up. Only requirement would be drug testing. We see too many people with children using all their money on drugs and forgetting about the kids. It would be so rewarding to make a difference. Of course my kids would all be taken care of. When we play the lottery we always talk about it. lol
