Hi Judith!
We just wanted to contact you to say hello and assure you that although, as a resident of the USA, you can't play at our casino right now, we do look forward to one day being able to welcome you back.
We thought we'd also take this opportunity to update you on the status of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
There has, thankfully and none too soon, been resistance to the bill in the Congress, with House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank most recently contacting the Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson to argue that the law was "unworkable". From his letter:
Given the many other priorities that are pending at your agencies, including the mortgage crisis, HOEPA, and UDAP rulewriting and many other issues, we believe it would be imprudent for you to devote additional agency resources to this Sisyphean task, especially as we intend to vigorously pursue legislation to prevent the implementation of these regulations.
Congressman Frank and presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul have also recently introducted H.R. 5767, which would ban the Department of the Treasury from enforcing any new regulations related to Internet gambling — and which we are, of course, hoping to see passed.
We consider all of this great news, and we're looking forward to when you're able to play with us again!
If you'd like to know more, take a look at APCW Perspectives. In the most recent episode, host J. Todd examines presidential candidate John McCain's stance on gambling, as well as recapping the week in the industry. New Perspectives are added weekly, and you can join the Association of Players, Casinos and Webmasters yourself at their website.
We'll keep you updated, and hope to have more good news for you soon!
