The Empire State Building to be Lit in Honor of the Grateful Dead

New York’s iconic Empire State Building will be lit up with special tie-dye colors in honor of the Grateful Dead this evening. The tribute coincides with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh’s scheduled appearance this Wednesday at a fundraiser for the New York Historical Society’s upcoming Grateful Dead exhibit. As previously reported, The Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New York Historical Society will open this spring, tracing the band’s career and achievements through a wealth of original artwork and documents. Materials in the exhibition will be drawn almost exclusively from the extraordinary holdings of the Grateful Dead Archive at the University of California Santa Cruz, established in 2008.

The had lots of "old western themes" in soo many of thier tunes... Trains, gambling and gamblers drunks the old west. I think the history was a passion for Robert Hunter who wrote with Jerry.

Then they had lots of tunes about ahhhmmm taking trips! not the falling down kind.

I saw them 76 when I was 14 and stopped when I got into different genres.

BUT- those were some of the best and most fun memories, I consider it a gift and once a deadhead......
