I just realised that it is nearly St Patrick's Day, does anyone do anything special for it, we don't here in Aus, but I know New York usually has a parade for it. I would love to hear any stories about it.

My grandmother was Irish. We always had corned beef and cabbage on St. Patricks day.I have always followed the tradition so tomorrow it will be corned beef and cabbage and a lot of people to feed!

And grandma always said it had to be red taters!

Yes cas1944,

I am the same way with the cabbage! And the baby spuds! So good. I boil them in salted water, leave the skins.............. when they are just tender enough, I drain them........ melt in some butter (real- we don't use anything else) and sprinkle some fresh parsley!

We have corned beef and cabbage a few times a year. No waiting for St Pattys' day around here!!

I love corned beef and cabbage as well, haven't had it for ages, do you boil the cabbage and carrot in with the corned beef, it is so tasty that way. I usually have mashed potatoes with it. Thanks for sharing everyone, I love hearing the way other people celebrate special days.

I'll be cooking corned beef and cabbage tomorrow. Love it, but only once a year. lol We always buy a couple of extra corned beef to freeze and cook later and make Reuben sandwiches. Phil makes them so great. Yum!

Ok, I am coming to your house Michelle! I LOVE Reubens. They are my favorite sandwich and whenever I go to different restaurants I always try theirs. They all make them so different though and I am usually not impressed. I can make them so much better, lol. :ohboy

I don't do the carrots, just the meat and cabbage. The spuds separate.

But, it is soo good!

We're Irish on that day only lol... certain bars around here open at 6am and the green beer flows all day. I know some people who give up drinking for Lent, EXCEPT for St. Patrick's Day lol... in grade school you better wear green or somebody will pinch you....

And a Reuben is a hot sandwich of corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on rye bread....

The only corned beef I eat is on rye from the Jewish deli in Cincinnati called Izzy's... served with kosher pickles and potato pancakes the size of a plate! yum!!!!!!!!!!
