US.- Sports Betting continues to take over the US, but some states have been more reluctant to approve legislation for the segment. Maryland seems to be among them, as a lawmaker has said that a Sports Betting bill “won’t happen this year.”

As reported by AP, State Sen. Nancy King, chairwoman of the Senate’s budget committee, said there isn’t much enthusiasm to legalise the segment this year. Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller agreed and said it will need to wait until the 2020 ballot.

Back in February, Republican Delegates introduced a bill to regulate and launch the Sports Betting segment in Maryland. The bill would hand the State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency the power to do so in order to rush the process.

House Bill 1132 was filed with the General Assembly by Dels. Jason Buckel and Kevin Hornberger in order to avoid putting the matter up for a public vote. However, if it fails as it seems it will, the whole process would be delayed, as Sen. Miller said, until the next federal elections, scheduled for 2020.
