Ok so this is bu#$#%it if i ever heard it. My son Christofer who is 12 years old and Autistic received a xmas check from his great grandma, it was for 75$ he was very excited and wanted to cash immediately, as we were going to the mall I thought I would just go to bank it was drawn on. So I get to Key Bank and present the check and my license and the tell says, "do you have an account with us", I do not my account is at Bank of America, so I simply said "ummm no" so he says, "Ms there will be a $7.50 fee to cash this. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. I did not understand why, I might understand if i put the check in my own account at Bank of America but not in the bank where it was drawn on. Of course I'm standing there with my 12 year old looking soooooooo excited, I just waived the bank on to take the fee, and replaced with my money.
I couldn't believe it, it has been awhile since I cashed a personal check at anyones bank, as i just put it my own account. Is this new?? Is this legal... My gawd, I'm still angry ...

Yes I bet you were angry, I think here in Aus that you have to deposit into your own account or rather the account that the cheque is made out to, glad he has his money to spend though, hope he enjoys it.

Unfortunatly very legal! These institutions are killing us with fees. We used an ATM....$3.25 for a $100 withdrawal...CRAZY.. On a happier note hpydyHappy Birthday to you son!

I don't blame you for being angry! It is drawn on an account from THAT very bank!!! I have had problems with crazy fees too. I honestly don't see how they can get away with that kind of policy. It should be illegal!

Happy Birthday to you son!!!

They do that at the PNC bank here, when I went to cash a check my brother gave me. Sad really... but Happy Birthday to your son!
