The LA Times reported a story where 23 year old British marine David Hart, who was killed in battle in Afghanistan left a rather peculiar provision in his will. Hart like many marines, took out a life insurance policy, but in it, Hart designated $163,000 (100,000 pounds) to be left for his military and civilian buddies and their girlfriends to go to Las Vegas in style.
That’s what you call honor, that’s what you call a true friend in my books.
According to the LA Times article, David Hart was killed last year in the Sangin district of Helmand province while on a foot patrol and last month, 32 of his friends flew to Las Vegas for some gambling, drinking and carrying on courtesy of Hart.
Hart’s best friend, Andy Hare, told the Daily Mail, “Out of 10, I would give the holiday 11,” “It was incredible from start to finish. We arrived in Vegas early evening and we hit the casino straightaway… I know David would have loved it because he loved his holidays away with the boys.”
The world certainly needs more good men like David Hart.
