Hi I am new to this forum. I have a quick question. What is the best way to play a small pair. Should you raise or should you just limp in. Or fold

I assume your talking hold um? I'm just an average player after 20 yrs.

So, for what it's worth....

It depends where you are at the table. What position. Pre-flop, I would limp in. See what the others do. Be careful on the turn. Read the cards (as well as the players) and look at the possibilities ie: a straight draw, flush etc. If I caught trips, I'd raise, but not tremondously. See if there's a higher pair on the board and watch the action. If your hangin at this point and you have players betting, then BET. That way people are more pot-commited and less likely to fold. And you will catch a bigger pot if you win!

And thats just ONE scenerio! Poker is a game of skill, but luck comes into play, of course. Especially in the silly game of hold um. And now that everybodys brother is playing, well I've seen some REAL SLOP!

I don't know if 1 word of that helped? G.L.

:hug Welcome to Streak Gaming, fluxcore! :hug

I gotta agree with Liz ....
When I'm dealt a small pair, I'll limp in as well, go with the flow of what's happening betting wise; and of course; watching the others players & cards.

If I happen to catch trips, I'll raise a fair amount because if someone's going to call that raise I know to "keep alert" as they just might have something there .... or of course, be a bluffing player.

As for my luck at the tables, more times than not that river cards always drowns me!! LOL

Again, like Liz said, so much determines how to play/bet because there are really no two of the same scenarios.

Good Luck with your play,
Vicki

If we are talking online poker it doesnt matter what you do..it depends on your and others players at that table personal payout % at just that moment...
:ohboy

If we talk real poker with real cards I would at least look at the flop if nobody raise to much before the flop...

I don't agree with ya ceks. I play pretty much the same online. I try and improve my game, so when I sit at a live table I have a bit more knowledge. To see the slop that goes on, IMO is total disrespect for the game of poker.

Seems you take "the hardline on most online games, play" just my take- not worth much, and not meant as an attack at all!

It would be interesting to sit at a table with you!

See ya,
Liz

Okay Liz, if you and ceks ever go head to head at the same table, I want to be there. I want to be the dealer and mediator, lmao.

Sorry but I dont plya online poker...I may try it if there was an independent control person that already knew the flop and the upcoming 2 cards on the table so we can trust those 5 cards dont change depending of how the players act during that hand....

The online poker software is designed to let each and every deposited dollar go between players as many times as possbile so it finally is eaten up by the poker site´s fees...

Just as a slotmachine is designed to give for ex. 97,5% in payout % the poker software is too and each player have a payout % too....like all of us have at all casinos and 90% of us have an overall payout % of about 97-99% since you signed up no matter how little or how much we have deposited. Ask the casino and youll see, its quite amazing!

So- the rake is too high online. But you also think it's kinda rigged as well??

If thats the case, why am I not surprised???? :help

Don't forget- there's also a question of collusion online!!

See ya, but not at the tables,

Liz

Whatever... Everything is "rigged", nothing is random in the computerized world...its advanced mathematics.

You can see the poker software expose itself when you have very bad luck and lose a big hand were you have bet most of your chips and the next hand almost always gives you AA or KK or any other very strong hand. The software compensating your loss and usually the software cover ithe compensating up pretty good on normal losses but when you have a big loss its "too big" to cover up without make the player suspisious and youll get a very strong hand always after a big loss...sure sometimes youve made a big win the hand before the big loss and the software dont need to compensate immediatelly after your big loss....

Im sorry I ruin the excitment of online poker for you...but its the truth.

Think real poker with real cards.....there we are talking random cards always, and no computer memmory or pre-set payout %...there is NO mercy and no external forces affecting the cards...except God himself(or herself)...

My Grandmother who was a gambler told me when I was about 21... GOD has NOTHING to do with gambling... She'd know, she went to confession and Mass every Sunday.

As far as the ban, now wouldn't that be the same as us losing casinos? Have you been locked-out cause you live in Canada??

Personally- I hate strawberry icecream, sucks in my opinion. Should it be taken off the market?

I get your point ceks! But, there's no talking to you. You will always have the final say and it's just too exhausting to deal!!! zippedlips

OH-

Spinning a slot- online or in a casino well, a monkey could do it!!

No offense to slot players, I play as well.

Im glad you mention slots... There is no skill in that game in first place and nobody expecting it to be more than a "lottery" so its fair...

Poker IS a game of skill but the skill playing online is disabled, the little skill you can add in playing online WILL be compensated by the software in the longterm to fulfill its pre-programmed purpouses.

Video Poker is something in between...you can make a choice there...if you are dealth a 4-of-a-kind you CAN un-hold it and lose but it will compensate it back later.

And another thing...if you play Video Poker with real cards at home on your kitchen table...the payout % wouldnt be more than 10% I belive, you should be very happy to get a 3-of-a-kind in one hour play...online its 97% or something... why should online poker be different? It is also based on payout % but nobody wanna talk about it when it may scare players away...

I stick to slots and hope my payout % is at its upper peek at that time... :slotdude

Wow...I played a freeroll at Party Poker...were 6 month since last time...I think I played 20 hands and I belive one or two hands looked normal, all other were just amazing! Amazing cards and big pots often splitted by many player and once I went all in and lost but go little back when my all in were biggest...and the next hand I got 22 and ofcoarse a 2 on the flop and I won a huge pot back...but finally I lost it all..I saw how almost all hands were rigged in a way that gained the poker site the best and hand that just dont come up in real poker wit hreal cards... these amazing hands just cant only happen to me the very few times I try a pokersite LOL Im really surprized how online poker can be allowed! But Im very happy I can stay aay and not letting myself get fooled by online poker..
