The Dutch government is planning to license and regulate all forms of egaming on a non-exclusive basis, according to media reports in the country this morning.

Newspaper De Telegraaf, crediting “sources in The Hague”, reported on its front page today that the Dutch government is planning to sell licences or establish a competitive tender process. “Total revenues of this [plan] are estimated at €100m, but that could increase up to €270m per year,” said the paper.

This follows the recommendation last month of the Dutch Ministry of Justice that poker should be legalised in Holland under a non-exclusive licensing system. However, today’s report suggests the Dutch government has now decided to regulate and tax all forms of egaming based on the Italian and French licensing model.

With the exception of Sports Betting offered by state lottery and betting monopoly De Lotto, all forms of online gambling are currently illegal in the Netherlands.

No idea if this is good or bad news to be honest, from the players point of view I mean.
My guess would be its good news, but can we still play in non-licenced casinos?
I'm sure big players like Ladbrokes and maybe 32RED will manage to get a licence, but I highly doubt if any Rival casino would.

I guess Holland Casino will now soon open its virtual doors, they wanted to do that 10 years ago already but were always pulled back by the government.

Just wondering what is going to change for us, the players..

Yeah Anton, I am also wondering what the effects of this change will be. Holland Casino is state-owned, so now they will be free to offer online gambling as well... The reason for this decision is, obviously, income for the Dutch state.

We can already play at quite a lot of casinos, except for Casino Coins casinos and Wager Works Casinos like Virgin Casino (BTW, Wager Works software can also be found at Holland Casino). I hope these casinos will get a license, so that Dutchies can play there too.

Let's wait and see...

:cheers
