I was interested to hear your impressions of the different cities around Aus, I must admit I am not a fan of Brisbane itself. It is a pity that you didn't get to Melbourne, it is the pick of the cities as far as I am concerned but then again I was born and bred in Melbourne as the saying goes. I presume both of you are familiar with the pronunciation of Melbourne, but for everyone else it is prounced Melburn, nearly everyone from overseas gets it wrong.
I have never been to Cairns but I believe it is very humid, and sounds like you visited Perth at the wrong time of the year, it does get very hot there. Did you like Sydney, I do like it but it is a very busy, noisy city and a lot of people don't take to it.
I can imagine that you well and truly paid for your drinks at the bar with your tips, as you probably discovered we very rarely tip over here, so we found it very strange when we visited the US and had to tip everywhere.
