Do any of you have one of these readers? If so which one do you have and do you like it? I have been wanting a Kindle forever but my budget has said NO. Anyways Kindle just came out with a new one. Kindle Fire. I am so glad I waited. Even my sisters that have different ones wish they would have waited for this one. It is color, bigger, faster, better etc...............

This is the one I will be saving up for after Christmas. Sooooo excited. I usually go to the library and get tons of books and a lot of them are soooo heavy, lol.

Haha, like to read? When I am not on the computer I am in my recliner reading a book or a magazine.

Anyone else have any e-readers? What is your opinion?

Well, sorry to say............ I am a genuine article person. There is nothing like curling up with a good book. IMO you just can't replace, the pages, the cover, the smell of the ink and paper. The way you can thumb through to parts you want to re-read. Write in them if need be. I will be surprised if I ever become an e-reader person. I know the following is long, but, it is amusing.

Plus, to try to quote a humorist I read:

""""Move over, Kindle: Cameron Industries, a mono-national corporation headed by CEO W. Bruce Cameron (no relation), announced today it will soon be marketing the "next generation" of portable readers. Dubbed the "book," Cameron predicts it will take the world by storm.

As described by Cameron, the book will mark major advances in current reader technology. Among them:

Battery life: While some manufacturers boast that their reading machines can have as much as 150 hours of battery life, Cameron claims that the (pat. pend.) "always on" technology used by the book means the battery life is actually longer than human life.

We weren't able to test that one in the lab.

Marketing will also be different for the book — Cameron plans to sell his books through stores, where people will be able to flip through the pages, assess the reviews and compare the content of several books rapidly.

"In these so-called 'book stores,' buyers will be able to scan the covers of dozens of books on display in mere seconds, as opposed to the slow loading of postage-stamp sized icons on the e-reading technology of today. The time-savings will be another enormous advantage."

Cameron did not address how his book-store concept would enable people to see so much content at once, and frankly, we're skeptical. Even with a 4G connection, for Cameron's book to be able to offer so many choices so easily defies what we know about bandwidth.

Page-turn: While some e-readers are better than others at changing pages, Cameron brags that his book will afford the user the best page-turn in the industry. "The user will feel as if he is actually flipping a piece of paper," states the product description. Further, flipping ahead or back in the book will be easier than in any other e-reader.

This one we did test. With some practice, our lab techs were able to flip ahead and back hundreds of pages at a time (using the book "Emory's Gift," which is the current content available from Cameron). Page-turns were faster than with any other reader, and Cameron is right: The feel is almost unbelievably realistic.

Ink: This one floored us. We initially assumed that the word "ink" described the digital ink with which the content is displayed, and indeed, the appearance of the pages is as good as anything currently on the market and is far superior to some when in direct sunlight. However, what Cameron Industries has managed to do is provide the ability for the user to make annotations directly on the page — annotations that are then saved with the content file for redisplay! This could be huge for students who want to make margin notes.

Our verdict: While we are hesitant to bet the future on so many unproven technologies, we're too impressed with the book to count it out of the competition. Read on!!"""""

I would definitely like to get a Kindle. My friend has one for her husband who had a stroke. I really liked it. The only feature I didn't like was when you go from looking at it horizontally to vertically; the type turns with the Kindle and makes me dizzy! LOL

I hear ya, Judy... with the weight of the books and lugging them back & forth to the library. I also can't hold the book for long periods of time due to the joints in my fingers being all mangled. A Kindle would be awesome for me.

I got the amazon kindle 3, it is like reading a news paper and has absolutely no glare on the screen. I love the fact that when i wnt to downloa a book from amazon the most i ever paid was 8 bucks and they have 1000's for free. It is instant when you download. IT also has different font sizes so mine is pretty large type lol. It always remember the page you were on and it has the kindle store in menu. I am addicted to it and just finished the last seties of twilight novels. Breaking dawn rocked! The kindle when i got it last yr was 130 and the fire is 199, If your just looking to read and check mail go to forums then the kindle 3 is great. It holds something like over 1000,000 books i believe. Charges fast and when not in use after 10 minuts it goes to sleep mode until you use it again lol.

Thanks redfawn, gonna get the Kindle Fire I am pretty sure. It is color for the magazines etc, and bigger (7") I don't usually buy the more expensive model of things, but I do believe this one is worth it.

:clap

My daughter in law just got herself an IPad 2 which is what I have been wanting, so that's what I have been saving for, but I have done a bit of reading about the kindle and just started experimenting with my iphone with the apps, and read that you could change the font size etc, which would be great for people that have poor eyesight, I really struggle to read books now, and when I was younger I would read one a day. Glad to hear that some of them are free from Amazon, all the apps I looked at on my iphone cost something.

We have a national radio show that comes on during the weekend called, "The Kim Commando Show". She is a technology Guru, when it comes to all of these new gadgets, computers, cameras, etc

She also has a website, i never visited it before, but if you are a member, she gives lots of great advice for all kinds of stuff. (well as it seems from listening to her on the radio.) She also does alot of giveaways, last weekend, every caller received a free gift. But anyways, I've heard her talk more about the Kindle then the nook, i think she prefers it over the one.

hope you can get some good info from her. :turkeyday

i'm kind of with weesie on this, i love books, so i don't know how much i would like the kindle.. but i hear really good things! alex's dad has one and he loves it, he reads all the time. my bestfriend also has one and she is in love with it. and she was skeptical about it at first too. i might try one if i actually had time to read these days.. unfortunately chasing around my 1 year old all day prevents that from being possible :think
