Iowa will not pass legislation to license and regulate egaming this year, with Senate Bill 458 failing to make it through the Hawkeye state’s “funnel stage” fully intact today.
Instead, the state’s Racing and Gaming Commission will now be given a chance to study and report back to the Iowa legislature on its provisions at a later date.
Bill sponsor Sen. Danielson, who introduced the bill in March, insisted to the Quad City Times that he was “not naive” and remained realistic about this latest development, stating that “gaming bills usually fail”.
Democrat Congressman Dave Jacoby however described the bill to the Daily Iowan newspaper as being “on life support”, given its failure to make it through the funnel, a system designed to dismiss certain legislature and lessen the workload on lawmakers.
