At this point in the game, online gamblers are looking for anything that will allow them to openly play poker from the comfort of their own home. That is why many players have gotten behind the efforts of Senator Harry Reid as he tries to end online gambling prohibition in the US.
The bill that Reid has drafted is anything but perfect for the players themselves. If approved, the players would likely be shut out of all online poker rooms for a period of at least fifteen months. Despite the layoff, gamblers are just happy that a lawmaker is finally taking the issue seriously.
Opponents of the online poker legislation have pointed out that Reid may simply be paying back Las Vegas gaming executives that stood behind him in the recent mid-term elections. The complaints are valid, with the bill being heavily drafted to benefit the Las Vegas and Atlantic City gaming industries first.
Whatever the reason for Reid's bill, the truth for online gamblers is that it is as close to Internet gaming freedom than they have been since the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was created in 2006. The effort alone has put Reid in a place of rare air among gamblers.
