According to a report from the local Courier-Post newspaper, the Republican announced that regulations authorising sportsbetting in the state will be
introduced next week as part of legislation he signed earlier in direct opposition to 1992’s Professional and Amateur Sports Promotion Act (PASPA),
which bans the activity in all but Delaware, Nevada, Montana and Oregon.

“If someone wants to stop us, then let them try to stop us. We want to work with the casinos and horseracing industry to get it implemented,” said Christie.
“Am I expecting there may be legal action taken against us to try to prevent it? Yes, but I have every confidence we’re going to be successful.”

The sportsbetting legislation that Christie will now
implement was sponsored by New Jersey State Senators Raymond Lesniak and Jeff Van Drew
and will see the New Jersey Casino Control Commission issue licenses to casinos and racetracks that will permit them to accept wagers from punters resident in the state on
some professional and collegiate events
