With Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla named as the sponsor of SB 812. Under the scheme proposed by the bill, drafted by lobby group Poker Voters of America with a Florida-based consultancy, Florida’s 23 licensed pari-mutuels attached to horse and dog tracks and jai alai frontons (venues for a racquet sport popular in Florida) in the state would be able to establish online poker portals. These would pool player liquidity into a central poker network run off three central platforms or “hubs”, with the operators of these chosen by the state under a competitive tender process. Operators' monthly gross receipts from online poker would be taxed at 10%. Figures provided to eGaming Review by data consultancy H2 Gambling Capital project that intrastate internet poker in Florida could generate US$341m in gross win by year three following regulation. eGR understands the bill will now pass to the Senate floor for a vote.
