I respect your opinion, Liz; and I am so glad that alternative treatments have played a part in keeping you with us! Like Carey, I believe my Dad would have lived a BETTER, maybe shorter (maybe not) life without the chemo & radiation.
It is my opinion that EVERYONE in the family should have been ordered by the judge to explore different treatments. My reasoning is that I think the child is too young to understand how cancer works and how "traditional cancer treatment" works. I don't think traditional treatment is for everyone. I also think that cancer needs more than prayer. (Prayer is great, don't get me wrong...but prayer combined with other treatments is better, IMO.) A holistic approach could be one alternative for this boy.
The problem with changing "mainstream America's" view on alternative treatments is that there are so many companies that mix a batch of herbal extracts together and call them a cure for everything from Arthritis to URI's. I can't tell you how many times I came across "cancer cures" while researching alternative treatments for my Rheumatoid Arthritis! That's just sad that companies are preying on distraught family members/sufferers of cancer.
Not cancer related, but let's look at Alteril; a so called insomnia cure. If it works so well, why do they need shady advertising and hidden terms in the sale? This place bills you in advance and ships you more pills every month whether you want them or not. There are a whole bunch of unsatisfied customers who CAN NOT get the deliveries stopped. These people have had to go so far as to completely change their bank accounts and credit cards, to stop this nonsense! If the pill was so great, word of mouth alone would send their sales sky-rocketing!
It's a shame that there are so many unreliable, untested and sometimes just plain ridiculous claims out there, when these people just need to cut through the bullsh*t and find something that works for them.
*I need an "end of rant" emoticon here.*
