Computer Help..please

I am soooo pissed.:monster

As everyone knows I don't have much money-well I saved to get a video card put in my computer, but after I bring my puter home it won't stay connected. I took it back and they said it was a droppd phone line. I said it was working just fine until they put in the video card. Because the HH was coming up and I wanted to be in it-I call the phone company out and they reinstalled new boxes, wires etc. and said that my phone lines are fine. (I hate to see my phone bill next month)
I go back to the store an they say that they can find nothing wrong with my puter.
Does anyone know what might be wrong? I have windows vista.
I am missing the HH and I am bummed-my friend is going to take my puter home and check it out while I am at work today.
I have had 3 others tell me they have had problems with the store too.
Any ideas would be helpful-I have my fingers crossed that my friend will find the problem.

Gosh Gufus that totally sucks! If the computer peeps couldnt figure it out I cant imagine what it could be. I hope someone here may be able to help you! Nothing is worse than having computer problems!:arggggg​

Firstly, don't panic!!!!

Here's what to do first....

Right click my computer and select properties
On the left side, select device manager
This will show you all the stuff in your computer...

Do you see anything that has a yellow or red mark beside it? If so, then either there is a problem with the hardware or a driver conflict. What Video card did they install? I work in a tech shop and will check back here after I get to work and see where we can go from here. It is very rare that a video card would stop your internet from working...

Second...try this.... If you haven't done so already..Right click on your little network icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and repair your ip address. Are you on dial up or dsl? If you're on dial up, just make sure that your settings don't allow call waiting to come through, as this can be a reason for dropped connections.

A video card won't cause disconnect issues for The Streak. A couple of other things to check since you're running Vista:

Check your firewall settings both in any anti-virus or security software you might have installed. And, check the security settings in Vista too. To test to see if this might be an issue, go to a "safe site" like Google and if it doesn't keep disconnecting, then you might just have to set The Streak as a "safe site".

See if you are running a pop-up blocker. Krazy as this might sound, sometime running a pop-up blocker will cause the browser to close.

I'm going to check back on this thread myself later to see how things go for ya gufus.

I think my computer is back up and no disconects-my friend said there was alot of hardware conflicts and Krazy is right about the pp up bloocker.

Dan is going to talk to the owner of the shop-the new kid he hired has goofed up alot of computers, he also told me he put in a new modem which my friend said he did not.
I just hope I can get caught up at the HH-I want to know what Vix and Carey have been doing..lol
