WooHoo, what a great idea. I smoked heavily for about 25 years and quit about 8 years ago. It was hard but soooo worth it. I have not picked up a cigarette since and never will. So good luck Carey, I know you can do it and also good luck to anyone else that quit! :thumbsup

YAY Carey. Come on people, let us know if you are quitting too. Be sure and leave these quitters and tips or tricks you may know (or used yourself) to help get over the craving. :luck

wtg Carey! Stick with it girlie! I am still smoking and need desperately to quit like now! Was going to start Chantix, but too many side effects that scare me.

I need to set a date and just stop.

Good luck to everyone undergoing this hard to kick habit!

Hang in there!

:thumbsup

I'm proud of you! I haven't had the guts to quit again, so know what you're going through. Just think, you're no longer carrying a personal incinerator with you! No more ashes, dirt and odor! No more sweating where you'll get your next puff. No more "dying for a cigarette"!

I am really really proud of you. My counselor said to start thinking of yourself as a nonsmoker NOW. "When I used to smoke", "that's just something I used to do".... And no recriminations about past smoking - those were adult decisions that you made at the time, and now you've made a new decision!

WAY TO GO!

My Dad used to smoke 3 packs of winstons a day. When he was 44 he had a massive heart attack and almost didnt make it. He never touched another cigarette after that. But he still needed an outlet/crutch. Being a mechanic he always wore work shirts with the chest pocket which he would keep his cigarettes in, and when he would get stumped/stressed about what he was working on he used to grab for his smokes. After his heart attack my step-mom used to fill his pocket with cinnamon hard candies, or root beer hard candies ( the old fashioned kind by claeys candies ) so everytime he would reach for his pocket he would have a candy instead. It worked for him and he just turned 72 on Jan 3rd. He has had many heart surgeries thru the years, but if he had kept smoking after his first open heart surgery, theres no doubt in my mind he would have passed long ago. He told me that it took about 3 years for him to stop forgetting he quit smoking and reaching for that pocket.

Good Luck Carey, & ev1 else trying to quit!

cresentcookie, it usually takes something life threatening for someone to have the strength to quit smoking. I want to do it before it gets to that point! Its awesome that your dad quit and you are right, he probably wouldnt be here today if he hadnt!:)HG
