Yeah they got a few thousand from me over the years. One time, you could write a check say on Thursday and it would take a day or 2 to clear, and my paycheck would be in on Friday. ( i know i shouldn't write a check a day before i got paid, but sometimes i had no other choice a few years ago, however, no way a check cleared within 12hrs so i thought) However, this happened a couple times within a month, i would do this and next thing i know, i would have 4-5 bounced check or check card fees and couldn't figure out why.
The reason eventually can out after weeks or arguing with the bank that there was no way a check i wrote 12hrs before getting paid cleared. You always got a different answer from each person you talked to.
Then i finally found out, that BOA started retro activating checks to the day you wrote them, not when they actually came in and cleared. This happened with no warning or anything and probably made millions from this as well. Anytime they change policies, they are supposed to notify you of any changes.
One time, i had all but $20 of my $450 paycheck for the week go overdraft fees.
And it wasn't just for the check either, what would happen, i would write a check on thursday afternoon for groceries or gas or something, or pay a bill, until the next day, and then say on Friday, i would use my checkcard for purchases, etc and then when they put the check in as if it came in on the Thurday, it would bounce checkcard purchases made on Friday.
anyways, it was crazy, and costed me alot of money, if i had known they had changed the policy, i would have stopped trying to float a check the day before and figured something else out.
