Hello my friends and Happy Holidays:
I would just like to post a reminder for any of you having to enjoy the holidays with a Autistic Child, as some of you may already know I have an Autistic 14 year old son Christofer. Please keep in mind that Autistic children are Autistic 365 days a year. Just because it is Christmas does not mean that they will suddeny become over joyed with the gift you picked for them, the meal you worked so hard on they still will not eat, the I love you, you said to them will not be returned with a smile, no matter their age they probably still believe in Santa Clause, your home you worked so hard on for the Holidays will probably overwhelm them and they will not be able to stay long, the noise that is families having a great day will no doubt send them into fit.
Please do not let your feelings be hurt, Autistic children feel love, they just don't show it, Autistic children need love, you just have to find the right way to give it..
I do not take my son out on Christmas and keep him inside most of the Holiday season as to much Christmas over whelms him and it makes for a very bad day. So we have a very small Christmas tree with minimal lights, and decorations, I do not decorate my home it is to distrating for him, he gets gifts on Christmas, but wakes up at his normal time, and will eat breakfast, wash his hands several times, play a video game, watch his favorite cartoon on dvd, and then maybe open a few presents at a time threw out the day, too much all at once would ruin the day. This is how it has been for years, and I'm ok with that, I love him so very much and this is just our life.
So please please keep this in mind on Christmas if you are with a Autistic child, if you do, their day will be great.
