and another celebrity in his own right who died was Ed Thomas, the highschool football coach who was shot to death by one of his former high school players

Thomas coached several players who went on to the NFL, including Aaronn Kampman of the Greenbay Pakers acksonville Jaguars center Brad Meester, Detroit Lions defensive end Jared DeVries and Denver Broncos center Casey Wiegmann.
