The playoff field has grown from four to 12 teams.
Key points:
- More playoff team action has led to larger handles for BetMGM
- The field has tripled this season
The expansion of college football’s playoff field has created additional betting opportunities for players,
according to a recent Associated Press report.
The field tripled with the expansion, going from four teams to 12 this season.
BetMGM’s Trading Manager Seamus Magee told the AP that the larger team structure has created a trend of growing betting interest.
He commented, “These teams get hot, and people just want to have a flyer on them. They don’t want to be standing
there and not have a ticket on some of these long-shot teams.”
Magee added that increased playoff betting has led to larger handles for the sportsbook.
He said in closing, “It’s one of the highest handles we’ve ever had on our national-championship market.
“We’re in more states, for one, but the activity and the betting patterns we’re seeing, it definitely feels a lot more than it has in years past.”
BetMGM recently signed a multi-year deal with Gannett to serve as USA Today Sports’ online sportsbook and casino partner.
Under the terms of the deal, BetMGM will incorporate its Sports Betting odds into stories for the publication.
BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said the company is eager to team up with Gannett and offer sports access to additional Sports Betting content.
He said, “BetMGM is proud to partner with Gannett and the USA Today Network. Their unrivaled reach at a local
and national level enables us to connect with a massive audience.
“By integrating odds and insights seamlessly into Gannett’s content, we're empowering fans to stay informed and engaged with their favorite teams and games. We look forward to a successful partnership that fuels the excitement of Sports Betting throughout football season and beyond.”
