I had to laugh with the surprise acts they had on Idol last night. They are all from my generation and though they had their "hey day", last night for the most part was not it. Cindy Lauper is a old fav of mine, but I get tired of her current renditions of Time After Time...time is over for this, do something new. Rod Stewart, well, what can I say, if his song last night was an audition for Idol, Simon wouldn't have let him finish--sorry Rod, your sex appeal is lost on me. Lionel Richie, well, I do like him, but think Danny out sang him. Steve Martin's song--yikes, Steve, my man, stick to comedy. The song, though fun, was much too fast for the poor vocalists to keep up with, but your banjo playing was kinda cool. There were some others, but apparantly they weren't that memorable to me. However, Gene Simmons' tongue (though it may have been the "thing" back decades ago) looked like my dog when he's trying to lick icecream off a cone and was not at all attractive. Call me old--sorry. But, the effort of the showmanship was apparant and it was, for a while, entertaining, so kudos to them.
As far a the final outcome--Adam should have had it without a doubt. Hats off to Kris, though, because if you were paying attention, when asked his reaction, he said something like Adam really deserved it...which made me feel like Kris knew too, but good for him. Adam will make it without Idol's help (as Carey said). And, if I had to describe Adam, which I was trying to to my 17 year old daughter. Adam is reflective of this young generation. I see him as a "gender bender" in the sense that he's not your typical male idol model, but still it doesn't make him any less male. He is strong in his youthful masculinity, but appeals to both male and female, young and old (I feel) and his experimenting with changing the music to fit different styles (keeping his integrity in tact and still respecting the art he is striving to change and improve) is what make him so original. He'll go a long way. And, I hope Kris does too.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
